Seigle Avenue Preschool’s target population consists of young children who live in pockets of low to very low income within a 2 radius from our location at 3045 N. Davidson Street in the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte. 95% of the families we serve are African American and nearly all are households headed by single mothers. The median annual income of our preschool families is typically less than $10,000. More than half of the parents are unemployed. Poor health, low education, crime and domestic violence are common problems for these families.
We serve children considered to be at-risk for academic failure and their families. Priority is on under-served children from fragile families. We seek to enroll those who demonstrate the greatest need: low income, no high school or GED achieved by parents, substandard housing, inadequate transportation, and children with potential developmental delays. We use the More at Four Pre-K guidelines to screen all applicants for eligibility.
Because we are a Cooperative, we require that parents volunteer at the Preschool a minimum of 7 hours/month per enrolled child and attend parent meetings at 8:30am each Wednesday. These two requirements must be met as a condition of enrollment. For more information about enrollment, please contact Veronica Smith. Phone 704-377-8076, ext 209. Email vsmith_seigleave@yahoo.com
